November 21, 2014 was a historic day in the annals of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunication. A freshmen welcome party was organized by the College of Overseas Education to welcome International students held at the Youth Centre of the University.
The program started at 18:30 hours felt the presence of dignitaries like the honorable Vice President Zhang Zhihua, Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange Liang Zhongcheng, College Party Secretary Fang Zongxiang, Vice Dean Fang Zichun, and Vice College Party Secretary Zhong Kai. The Youth Centre was full to its capacity hosting about 700 students, staff and guests (Among them, there were 46 NUPT international students from 17 countries, other international students from other universities of Nanjing). While the hall kept receiving audience, the participants behind the stage in the dressing room, make up room, practice room very busy getting prepared to show off their performances. Some people were busy with the stage to make it prepared. People, responsible for music and light control, were also much careful.
The party was started with a formal introduction of the dignitaries followed with a welcoming address by the Vice President.
The floor was opened with a dance performance by a Chinese participating group who were applauded by audience with claps. About eight participant-groups showed their performances. Both Chinese and foreign students gave spectacular performances which made the party more enjoyable to all and sundry present especially the new students. The performances were educative and entertaining as some sought to inspire good morals like love to each other and confidence, it frowned on a mixture of social vices like theft in the student life all displayed in drama. There was a cultural display by two foreign societies, The Africans and the Bangladeshi International Students in their traditional wear. Five African women danced to exhibit the African culture. The Bangladeshi also sang a patriotic song to show patriotism to their nation whiles Bangladesh as a country was briefly shown in photos on the big screens in the hall. Drama and talents on musical instruments like flute, jazz, violin, pianos, among others were displayed by other Chinese student groups.
One of the most interesting parts was the giveaway prizes, which was done through a random electronic draw of the ticket numbers. The prizes won were 5000RMB, iPad, iPhone, one wheel car and many more which got the program more exciting. It might interest you to know that, among the lucky prize winners was a visiting female student from another university who came as a visitor.
General comments from the visitors from other universities were a commendation to the organizers for bringing such an awesome program up to welcome the freshmen especially the International Students.
The program worth to be a history as amazing scenery was created by staff and students of the college. Fantastically among the Masters of Ceremony (MCs) driving the program was one African student who could also speak Chinese. The whole program continued till 21:00 hours.
