On Nov. 26, 2014, in Room 207, Teaching Building No. 1 on Xianlin Campus, the College of Overseas Education organized a lecture entitled An Introduction to Chinese Culture, which was given by Professor Wu Dingmin. Professor Fang Zichun, Vice Dean of the College of Overseas Education presided over the lecture, and Professor Wang Yukuo was present in the lecture. All the international students attended the lecture.
Professor Wu, former Dean of School of Foreign Studies, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and professor of Confucius Institute, is the writer of A Panoramic View of Chinese Culture, a textbook for international students. Based on many years of teaching experiences for international students, Professor Wu introduced various aspects and elements of Chinese culture, and the spirit and connotation of Chinese culture. He took an example of Chinese Kongfu, and pointed out that the essence of Kongfu is not only a way to combine human beings and nature, but also has moral values on Martial values. Prof. Wu encouraged international students to integrate into Chinese culture. They are supposed to know better both about their own culture and other cultures by communication and comparison.
After an over one-hour lecture, Professor Wu encouraged international students to raise questions. Students asked questions one after another, and Prof. Wu answered one by one. When answering questions on comparison between Chinese and Western medicines, Prof. Wu showed some Tai Chi twenty-four moves very fluently, and international students feel the mystery of Chinese medicine and Tai Chi.
In the warm and harmonious atmosphere, the cultural lecture for international students from the College of Overseas Education ended. The lecture series aim to promote cultural studies and communications of international students, broadens international horizons, cultivate high-quality talents, and promote internationalization of our university. International students say they know more about Chinese culture, and they become more confident in integrating into Chinese culture.
