Notice on the Sampling Inspection and Defense Work of 2026 Undergraduate Graduation Design (Thesis)

Colleges:

According to the Regulations on Undergraduate Graduation Design (Thesis) Work of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations), the 2026 undergraduate graduation design (thesis) is about to enter the defense stage. The defense work is an important link of the graduation design (thesis), and each college should strengthen the management of the graduation design (thesis) defense work. Strictly follow the work procedures and requirements for the defense as stipulated in the work regulations and make all preparations for the defense in advance. The Undergraduate College will conduct sampling inspection on graduation design (thesis) in collaboration with the Teaching Quality Monitoring and Evaluation Center. The details are as follows:

1. Sampling inspection of graduation design (thesis)

(1) University-level sampling inspection

1. Inspection scope

Random selection will be conducted at a ratio of 2% of the number of graduation project students. The proportion of random selection for each major will be adjusted appropriately based on the results of the previous year's random selection. Please refer to Attachment 1 for the specific list of students.

2. Inspection methods

(1) Evaluation experts shall conduct the evaluation in accordance with the standards for random inspection and evaluation of undergraduate graduation design (thesis) in Jiangsu Province.

(2) Each thesis will be evaluated by three experts. If two or more (including two) of the three experts' evaluation opinions are unqualified, the thesis will be identified as problematic thesis.

3.Requirements for Inspection

(1) Students participating in the sampling inspection must submit their graduation design (thesis) materials on time in accordance with the school's sampling inspection work arrangement.

(2) Students whose sampling inspection results are identified as problematic graduation theses shall not participate in the first round of thesis defense. Students must rectify their theses within two weeks. After rectification, the theses must be reviewed and approved by school experts before they can participate in the defense.

(3) For a graduation thesis with one expert's comment of unqualified, the student must revise the thesis according to the expert's comment within one week, and submit the revised thesis to the college for review. Only after the review is passed can the student participate in the defense.    

4.Check time

(1) Before May 8th: Students who are randomly inspected should upload the final version of their theses, plagiarism detection reports, and AIGC detection reports to the graduation design (thesis) management system for review by their supervisors.

(2) May 9-15: Expert review;

(3) May 18-20: The Undergraduate School feeds back the results of the sampling inspection.

(2) College-level sampling inspection

Each college shall formulate detailed implementation rules for college-level sampling inspections based on its actual situation, determine the principles, methods, time, procedures, etc. of college-level sampling inspections, and the sampling inspection ratio shall in principle be no less than 2%. Students to be inspected should cover all majors, and the list of students to be inspected should not be duplicated with the list of students to be inspected at the university level. Each college is required to formulate a sampling inspection plan and submit the plan (sampling inspection ratio, time arrangement, sampling inspection list, etc.) to the Undergraduate School for record by May 8.

2. Defense of Graduation Design (thesis)

(1) Requirements

1. Qualification review

Graduation project (thesis) defense qualification review is a necessary part of the graduation project work. Each student must provide all the materials required for the graduation project (thesis) before they can participate in the defense, and each college must do a good work in the review of students' defense qualifications.

2.Organize the defense

Attach great importance to the organization of the defense of undergraduate graduation design (thesis) and strictly follow the work regulations. The defense of team students should be carried out in accordance with the requirements for team graduation design (thesis) as stipulated in the Work Regulations. The instructor should strictly review whether all materials meet the requirements and pay attention to the collection and filing of various materials after the defense.

3.Discipline requirements

The defense must be conducted in accordance with regulations to ensure the fairness and impartiality of the defense process. When arranging the venue, full consideration should be given to the seriousness of the defense work, and the defense environment should be well arranged and the atmosphere created.

4. Evaluation of grades

Students' graduation design (thesis) grades should be evaluated strictly in accordance with the Grading Standards for Graduation Design (Thesis) of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications. The proportion of graduation design (thesis) grades rated as excellent is generally controlled at around 15%, and at most no more than 20%. The proportion of students rated as average or below should generally be no less than 30 percent.

5. Commendation defense

    The graduation design (thesis) report participating in the excellence evaluation must be applied for by the student himself/herself and the Application Form for Outstanding Graduation Design (Thesis) of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications must be filled out. After being recommended by the supervisor or the reviewer, the defense will be organized uniformly by the college defense committee. Each defense panel must appoint at least one external expert with the title of associate senior or above as a member of the defense panel.

(2) Time arrangement

1. Defense arrangements

All colleges are requested to make the arrangements for the graduation design (thesis) defense as early as possible and submit the consolidated defense schedule (Attachment 2) to the College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education of the Undergraduate School before May 21. Each college must strictly follow the schedule of the graduation design (thesis), and the defense time is in principle the 13th week (May 25th - 29th). Colleges with difficulties in the arrangement may postpone it appropriately after filing with the Undergraduate School. All students' defenses must be completed by June 2.

2.Submit grades

Each college is requested to submit the list of students who have passed the 2026 Graduation Design (Thesis) and the list of students who have not passed the 2026 graduation design (thesis) to the Academic Affairs Management Office of the Undergraduate School before June 3. The list of students with excellent grades in the 2026 graduation design (thesis) should be submitted to the College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education of the Undergraduate School (all three documents must be signed by the vice dean in charge and stamped by the college). After the defense work is completed, each college is requested to submit the graduation design (thesis) grades in the educational administration system before June 5.

3. Other materials

Each college is requested to submit the Summary Table of 2026 Graduation Design (Thesis) Topics and Grades and the Summary of 2026 Graduation Design (Thesis) Work to the College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education of the Undergraduate School before June 11.

All colleges are requested to attach great importance to and cooperate actively to ensure the successful completion of the 2026 graduation design (thesis) work.
